St Abdon mystical oak, near Aigne, Herault

Mystical oak tree of Saint Abdon, near Aigne, Herault

Follow the small vineyard roads out of the village of Aigne to find this mystical place. The oak has long been associated with old religions like druidism, and has been converted to suit newer beliefs. From this tree there are marvelous 360 degree views towards the Mediterranean, the cathar village of Minerve, La Caunette, and across the Aude valley towards Mount Alaric. Saint Abdon's cross is across the vineyard from the oak - and perhaps a dolmen was also once at this site. Strong energy! No wonder that the oak tree and the cross are a place where pilgrimages go when there is a drought, asking for rain to fertilise the vines
