Le Riou is an old farmhouse (Maison de Maitre), parts of which date back to the 17th century, standing in its own spacious grounds, surrounded by ancient trees, with the river Laudot running alongside and splashing over a small weir with a pool below it.
With its creeper clad walls, white shutters and long low facade, it is a typical farmhouse of the region. Le Riou is ideal for those seeking a peaceful and tranquil holiday, as well as those seeking a more active one.
DETAILS OF ACCOMMODATION
The apartment is located on the ground floor, with its own entrance from the gravel drive.
Through French windows you enter the large living and dining room, with comfortable sofas, day bed, TV and radio.
An open plan kitchen, equipped with oven, electric hob, double sink, fridge, kettle and coffee maker completes the front part of the apartment.
Guests are invited to make full use of the garden for alfresco dining, playing games, or just soaking up the sun and tranquility.
There are two bedrooms, both looking onto a terrace and the grounds. There is a shower room and separate WC.
All rooms have electric heating for comfort during the cooler months.
There is access to a washing machine.

ABOUT REVEL AND AREA
Revel is centre of the highly skilled reproduction furniture industry. A picturesque market is held every Saturday under the ancient Halles, recently named as one of the 100 best markets of France, where fresh produce and local atmosphere are in abundance. The medieval town is built symmetrically around the central market place, the roof of which is a masterpiece of 14th century local craftsmanship, supported by a forest of wooden pillars.

Surrounding the market square are fine 17th and 18th century houses with beautiful arcades at street level. Near Revel is the lake of Saint-Ferreol, built in the 17th century by Pierre Paul Riquet, as the main water reservoir for the Canal du Midi. Today all sorts of leisure activities are possible on the lake, such as canoeing, windsurfing, sailing, pedal boats, and swimming. The shore is ideal for walking and cycling in beautiful mature surroundings.
In the middle of the historic Cathar country, Le Riou affords easy access to the wild country of the Ariege, with its precipitous castles and the heavily wooded Montagne Noire, which is a National Park, with pretty lakes to swim in and picnic by, with horse riding facilities. Although not by itself a wine-growing area, the Lauragais plain is surrounded by the vineyards of Gaillac, Corbieres, Limoux, Minervois, and Fitou, making it an ideal base for any wine lover. In high summer the countryside is aglow with huge fields of sunflowers. There are also a number of excellent restaurants nearby, many of which serve the famous cassoulet.
ACCESS
International airports are within easy driving distance - Montpellier (60 mins), Carcassonne (60 mins), Toulouse (2 hours) and Barcelona (3.5 hours). There are railway stations at Beziers (25 mins) and Narbonne (40 mins) with TGV connections to Paris.
