On the top of the hill, in a wine estate, a large charming house, for 14/18 people, pool, calm. In the Minervois area of Languedoc, close to the Canal du Midi village of Paraza, the house has a commanding view of the surrounding countryside, vineyards, hills, the Aude river valley and distant Pyrenees.

Welcome to the Domaine du Viala. A unique 'maison des hotes' situated on a hill overlooking the Canal du Midi in a 18th century wine domaine.
A truly exceptional place, with all the charm and simplicity of the real Midi Languedoc, to spend your holidays or week ends amongst your family and friends.
Unusually large for the area The Domaine du Viala has space for 14 to 18 people with 7 bedrooms and the possibility of an 8th with all the facilities you would need (5 bathrooms)
There is a large living/dining/kitchen area of 100m2 together with 3 large shaded terraces. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, oven, washing-machine....).
There is also an external kitchen with barbecue and gas fire and a large table for meals under the arbour.
With a beautiful private and protected flood lit swimming pool of 7x12m and plenty of room for sunbathing surrounded by hectares of safe grounds the Domaine du Viala welcomes children and pets.
Available from Spring until Autumn, you can enjoy walks in the 'vignes', pick your own wild mushrooms and salads, take part in wine tastings and experience the joy of staying in an unspoilt corner of Southern France.
ABOUT THE HOUSE
Perched on the top of a hill are the imposing buildings of an old fortified farm with panoramic views capturing the whole Minervois landscape. At the bottom of the hill, the Canal du Midi, with its locks, gently meanders through the charming countryside characterised by its olive trees and vineyards.
In the middle ages, le Viala was a fortified abbey which, because of its position, was able to survey and control the two valleys whose main Roman roads lead from Beziers to Carcassonne and from Narbonne to Toulouse. The abbey later became a farm and vineyard, which prospered until the 19th century.

ABOUT THE SURROUNDING AREA
We are only 2 minutes from our local village Paraza and within easy driving distance of big cities such as Toulouse, Montpellier or Barcelona.
Surrounding villages bear witness to many historical influences, including both Roman and medieval. A visit to the unique walled city of Carcassonne is a must, as is a visit to Minerve with its dramatic historical background. There are wonderful interesting places to discover... and the Mediterranean is only 30 km away!
For shopping, there are lots of' possibilities. Nearby villages have delightful fruit and vegetable markets and there is a big supermarket only 10 km away. In the nearest village Paraza (1km), there is a bakery, a butchery and a grocery, and a nice café in Summertime.

Payment is based on Euro (€) value, £ and $ shown is only approximate. The "gite" is equipped with bed linen and towels. A weekly change of linen and final cleaning are included in the full rental price but residents are expected to leave the gite in the same condition as found on arrival. Domestic pets are permitted (please mention same when booking), but must be kept under owner's control at all times.
