HOUSE RENTAL SLEEPS 4 TERRACE CABLE SATELLITE TV / DVD/ CD PLAYER SMALL GARDEN RESTAURANTS, CAFES A WALK AWAY SEA VIEWS This idyllic house has magnificent views from its terrace across the Mediterranean, and the village of Cadaques. It is the perfect base to explore this magical region, which became the muse for Dali and Picasso. The owner of the house is a contemporary artist, that in addition to the paintings on the walls has crafted furniture in the house (dining table), and has decorated the stairs.
Living/dining room One enters the house on the upper floor, into the dining /living room with table to seat 6, sofa, cable satellite TV, DVD player and Hi Fi stereo sound system. In the small corridor is the bathroom with WC, shower, and washbasin. Adjoining the living room is the kitchen, well equipped with gas cooker, toaster, refrigerator, dishwasher, and washing mashine. Beyond the living/dining room is the terrace, with chairs and table, perfect for dining, coffee, or enjoying the marvelous views. ABOUT CADAQUES AND THE AREA The house in Cadaques is situated 10 minutes walk from Dali's house, and has a wonderful view of the town, and one can see from the terrace or dining inside the town, the church, the sea. The town center, supermarkets, art galleries, shops, bakery stores, restaurants are 5 minutes walk. Cadaques is about 1 hour drive from the French border, and is the ideal place to visit to capture the exuberance of Catalonia and the Spanish spirit of life. It is magnificently located on the Cap de Creus, with tremendous panoramic views that inspired great artists from Picasso to Dali. There are numerous festivals throughout the year - JANUARY - the Birth of the Sun Festival - with traditional dancing; and a traditional procession to St Sebastian's chapel; FEBRUARY - Carnival; APRIL - a food and cooking festival; JUNE - celebration on the eve of St John; JULY - Our Lady of Carmen - boat processions - sardanes (dancing); AUGUST - Festival of Cadaques; SEPTEMBER - Summer Festival; DECEMBER - Winter Festival with mountain bike treks, dances, sporting events. And all year on the last Sunday of the month there is an Antique fair. There are almost 40 restaurants to enjoy sea food at its best; as well as shops, numerous art galleries, and museums (Municipal Art Museum, Peirrot More Art Center, The Dali Museum - where Dali lived). Water sports, scuba diving and numerous other activities are to be found, with golf, rock climbing, fishing, cycling, all within access. Nearby there are natural wonders of the Cap de Creus National Park, with the lovely monastery of Saint Pere de Rodes; or visit the Marshes of the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park. Dali has a large and entertaining museum in Figueres, in an old theatre - that has been modified like only a surreallist knows how. For the more enterprising Barcelona is not too far away and makes an excellent day or weekend excursion, to visit the myriad of shops, restaurants, night clubs, art museums and galleries as well as the outstanding architecture of Gaudi - the Cathedral. For those seeking skiing can be found in the valleys and mountain sides of the Pyrenees in Catalonia resorts at Masella, La Molina and Nuria. To the north taking the coast road one reaches France and the delights of Collioure, Banyuls (home of Maillol), and one or two day trips can go as far as Carcassonne, Perpignan and Montpellier. ACCESS International airports are at Gerona, Barcelona, and to the north Perpignan (France). Railway stations are at Figeures and Llanca.
