DISCOVER CANAL BOAT RENTAL ACTIVITIES IN THE LOT RIVER VALLEY Boats available for rental Enjoy taking your canal or cruise boat rental from Luzech - just 20 kms from Cahors where there are railway connections to Paris, Toulouse and the major cities of France. Luzech has at its center a medieval village and fortress, behind which on a hill was supposably a Roman town. Following the winding course of the Lot, you will be astonished by the beauty of the landscape, with its scatterred vineyards, and cliff faces. You will pass by Parnac, a small village, with the lovely church of Saint-Cernin, a village facing the Château of Caïx, now owned by the royal family of Denmark; Caillac with its magnificent church, and the nearby renowned wines of Château de la Gresette; then pass Douelle, a wine port, and a place where they used to make barrels, it is over looked by the ruins of the Donjon de Cessac. On to Mercues, with its Chateau, where you can taste the "black" wine;and then Cahors, on the loop of the river, town of Leon Gambetta, the Pont Valentre - 14thC fortified bridge, the massive Cathedral, the Medieval centre, with the Tower of Pope John XXII (native of Cahors). Then Arcambral, with yet another chateau!, on to Vers, where there is a pretty church; and St Gery (see photo); and Bouzies, with its castle in the cliff walls (photo), from the 100 years war. At the apex of your cruise is Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (see website), where incidentally Andre Breton, founder of Surrealism spent his Summer holidays saying the place reminded him of the poems of Rimbaud. The church and village sit on a cliff that plummets into the Lot!
